I am back home after having house and dog-sat the past two weeks.
On Sunday, I watched the Oscar broadcast in our local cinema which annually hosts not only the broadcast of the Academy Awards but the ticket also includes two Oscar-nominated movies. My man and I went with my two sisters, my sister's boyfriend and another friend and my man and I first saw Lion, the story of a boy in India who gets lost one day and ends up being adopted by an Australian couple. As an adult, he struggles to find his identity and travels back to India to find his birth mother and brother. It was a wonderful film and I can only highly recommend it - unless you don't like to cry because I had to cry nearly all through the movie. The second movie we watched was Arrival and although I thought it was good, I was slightly disappointed as everyone was saying it was so incredibly, insanely awesome...well, always start with low expectations to be swept away with excitement. To be honest, I thought the Oscars were pretty lame this year...well, at least I thought that until the last five minutes. Jimmy Kimmel was OK, but the entertainment in between was boring as hell and generally it seemed as if everyone just wanted to get it over with. Thankfully, the Academy made a terrible mistake at the end when it came to announcing Best Picture or no one would have ever talked about this year's awards anymore. In a dreadfully embarrassing moment, the crew had to come on stage after Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty announced La La Land as Best Picture, and corrected it to Moonlight. Seriously, they were mortified, it seemed for a second as if they were contemplating to simply let it slip to not have to face the embarrassment, it was insane. However, in the end Moonlight won, and well deserved so. Honestly, I watched La La Land and thought it to be a cute movie but I cannot understand the hype around it and wouldn't have thought it would be among the Best Picture nominees, but hey, different tastes, different choices. Alright, what else...many female members of the Democratic party wore white in Congress in protest to Trump's anti-feminist, sexist politics and views and his planned restrictions for women to get birth control. Thumbs up for them! Great to see how the world is engulfed in revolution against this lunatic and I hope he will have to resign soon, but doubt it, unfortunately. Additionally, it was announced that during his first month as president he already found the time to go golfing six times after having severely criticized Obama during his presidency for his golf sessions...seriously, this Trump guy doesn't look at his old material at all, right? I mean, I guess it can happen that things you do annoy you with others which creates some sort of hypocrisy, but not with every second statement and not if you're the president of the United States - as Trump would say, complete disaster.
